Willie Lee Wiliams Memorial Youth Boxing Scholarship
In Memory of Willie Williams 1936-2015
The family of late Willie Lee Williams (1936-2015) has established an annual boxing scholarship in his name for eligible youth. The scholarship will be administered in cooperation with Sam Colonna Boxing MMA & Fitness LLC.
Willie Lee Williams was well-known in the Chicago boxing community prior to his sudden death in February 2015. He volunteered, mentored and worked in boxing, particularly youth boxing and Chicago Golden Gloves, from 1991-2015. During that time, Willie was associated with several Chicago area boxing establishments, including Windy City Boxing Gym, Chicago Boxing Club and Sam Colonna Boxing MMA & Fitness. Willie impacted many lives through boxing and believed "the lessons the gym provides to the kids in the community go beyond the ring."
The Willie Lee Williams Memorial Youth Boxing Scholarship is targeted for individuals who:
• Meet the Sam Colonna Boxing MMA & Fitness LLC requirements for participation in a youth boxing membership,
• Are enrolled in a primary, intermediate or secondary school eduation program, which includes meeting the educational program's achievement, attendance and discipline requirements, and
• Are seriously interested in the sweet science of boxing
The scholarship recipient will be awarded a six-month youth boxing membership at Sam Colonna Boxing MMA & Fitness, 2600 West 35th Street, Second Floor, Chicago, IL. Membership includes youth boxing classes and gym for six consecutive months, from January 1 through June 30.
The scholarship recipient will be selected by Sam Colonna Boxing MMA & Fitness LLC without discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, religion, height or weight.
